(The
following in my personal opinion and is presented here for your
information only. It is not intended to render any specific
and/or legal advice, nor to disparage, slander, and/or libel
any person and/or organization.)
The
Coalition was comprised of a growing number of concerned citizens
in regard to the future development of the property just across
the street from the main entrance of Pacific Mobile Home Park
and is called Pacific City. While the development is not part
of the park itself, it could most definitely have an adverse
affect on the longevity of the park, along with other negative
effects within the surrounding communities.
My personal concerns are, 1.) Since I am a long-time resident
of this particular park, I naturally have concerns for the well-being
of our home-site 2.) While efforts are underway by the residents
to try and purchase the park ourselves, or gain control through
a non-profit organizations, are such efforts actually futile
as far as the City is concerned? And, 3.) The Pacific City Project
Site was a former 50+ year old Chevron Oil Production Field
and Gas Distillation Facility. I personally have my doubts that
the site was cleaned-up and/or remediated properly from all
the contaminated soil, so now and/or in the future, could possibly
create a major health hazard for future residents and/or workers
within the site, and other surrounding neighborhoods as well,
including that of Pacific Mobile Home Park.
While
pretty quite today, I still keep the concept of the Pacific
City Action Coalition going, which at this time, is only on-line.
The Pacific City Action Coalition was comprised of not only
select residents of Pacific Mobile Home Park, but also the residents
and businesses of those concerned citizens east, north and west
of the project site itself, in addition, to the growing concerns
of other Huntington Beach citizens well beyond the property
boundaries itself. South of the project is the Pacific Ocean.
The
key factors and primary concerns, in reference to this particular
project, was the fact that within this City (Huntington Beach)
we have experienced the deaths of a number of children from
rare brain-stem cancer glomas; so rare in fact that only 350
to 400 cases are reported each year - nationwide. And now we
have a unheard of number of children, and other similar cancer
cases in adults, all within this City. So far, the common dominator;
most of these cancer victims lived in housing developments that
at one time were oil production fields. Now, do you see the
need for the Pacific City Action Coalition to continue on?
Thanks
for your concern,
John Sisker
